My name is Rich Glancey, and I’m the proud owner of KongSpice, a small-batch, veteran-owned spice company. At 60 years old, I’m still chasing the dream I’ve carried since discovering my love of food during my time in the U.S. Army.
I served 8 years as a mechanic, stationed in South Carolina and Honduras. While overseas, I fell in love with bold flavors, spicy dishes, and the unique ways food brings people together. That passion led me to start my first food business — a hot sauce company in 2019. It grew quickly, shipping to 9 states and landing in over 75 retail stores, including 40 Hy-Vee locations. But like so many others, our momentum was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic. With supply chains disrupted and ingredients unavailable, I was forced to close the doors.
Now I’ve taken my years of experience and love of flavor and poured it into something new: KongSpice — a line of handcrafted spice blends that elevate any meal. In just 3 months of production, our 8 custom blends have been a hit with customers. We’ve made it onto a couple of small retail shelves, but we want to go further — to bring KongSpice to more kitchens and more stores across the country.
